Seo Hyun-jin Reveals She Moved Out After Parents’ Words “A Turning Point in Life”
On the November 20th (Wednesday) broadcast of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” (Episode 270), themed “The Timing of That Day”, guests included lovely Italian chef Fabrizio Ferrari, forensic pathologist Kim Moon-young and actress Seo Hyun-jin.
During the show, Seo Hyun-jin opened up about her career journey. She revealed that she had to endure a 15-year gap after transitioning from being an idol, following the disbandment of her group just a year after debut, to becoming an actress.
She admitted, “I think I had a bit of an inferiority complex. You can’t really call ‘trainee’ a profession. Questions like ‘What are you up to these days?’ were really hard to hear. I cried a lot. I just endured, hoping time would pass.”
She also shared that her parents, out of concern, once said, “There must be a reason why things aren’t working out.” Reflecting on this, she added “After hearing that, I moved out within two weeks. I wasn’t ordinary either”, hinting at her determination. Yoo Jae-suk commented, “It was a major turning point for both you and your parents.”
Seo Hyun-jin also resonated with a piece of writing by author Gong Ji-young, saying, “It was dirty and miserable, but the only way out of that sewer was through my own effort—whether it was auditioning or doing independent films. Instead of thinking ‘Why isn’t it working for me?’, I told myself, ‘I still have time!’”
Meanwhile, “You Quiz on the Block” is a variety show where Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho meet a diverse range of people and share stories. The show airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM.
